Making Money on Meetup.com

Saturday, September 08, 2007

Meetup.com is a cool website.

First, it allows you set up an "interest group". This is a group of people that you want to attract for regularly occuring meetings. This can be for any subject matter, such as work-at-home moms, starting a bridge club, or finding hiking buddies.

There are also a lot of Internet entrepreneurs setting up groups on subjects ranging from SEO, to blogging, Flash, and affiliate marketing.

And, many of these groups require members to pay a fee to attend a meeting.

Ah ha! There's how to make money. And a lot of "internet entrepreneurs" are doing this.

They use the knowledge they've gained from making money online, and are then selling that knowledge to people desperate in learning how to do the same. They might charge anywhere from $20.00 to $40.00 a head.

The reason why this works is because Meetup.com is a VERY popular website. First, they've managed to do a very good job of getting their webpages and groups to rank highly on Google. Second, it's just very popular because there are so many groups, in so many genres, and in so many neighborhoods across the country.

If you're an expert on SEO, you can set up an SEO Meetup Group in your local area, and attract people hungry for tips on how to get their websites to rank higher on Google. Each meeting you schedule should focus on a specific SEO strategy. Then you charge people something small, like $10.00. If you manage to present your discussion very well, they'll come back for the next meeting.

If you can get 10 people to show up, you've made $100.00 that night. If your Meetup group becomes popular, and you can get 20 people show up, and charge them $20.00 a piece, now you're talking $400.00 in one night.

As people find your Meetup group, and join in, send them a personal e-mail thanking them for joining, and give them some personal attention. This will make them feel comfortable about RSVPing for one of your meetings.

Some people have set up several Meetup groups, one for SEO, another for web design, another for making money online. And each group will have a monthly meeting, such that they're running these "classes" once a week.

Check out Meetup.com, and see if there's something you can do with it...
